Banks now make up 23% of ESMA's MiCA crypto provider register
Banking groups have roughly doubled their presence on ESMA's MiCA register since late June and now account for nearly one in four listed providers.

Banks now represent close to one in four entries on the European Securities and Markets Authority's MiCA register, according to Cointelegraph, after their presence on the list roughly doubled since late June.
The figure puts banks at about 23% of providers on the register, a shift in the mix of firms that have secured authorisation under the European Union's crypto framework.
What the register covers
- ESMA maintains the register of entities authorised under MiCA.
- The list covers crypto-asset service providers operating in the EU.
- Banks' share of listings has grown to roughly 23%.
- Their presence has approximately doubled since late June.
MiCA introduced a single licensing regime for crypto service providers across the bloc, with national authorities handling approvals and ESMA coordinating the register. The growing share of banks reflects how established lenders are moving into areas such as custody and trading services alongside specialist crypto firms.
