Ripple Wins OCC Trust Bank Charter Covering RLUSD Reserves
Final OCC approval lets Ripple open a national trust bank chartered to hold reserves for its $2.5 billion RLUSD stablecoin, with no direct role for XRP.
Ripple has received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to establish a national trust bank, according to a BeInCrypto report. The charter is tied to the reserves backing Ripple USD (RLUSD), the company's dollar-denominated stablecoin.
The approval covers roughly $2.5 billion in RLUSD reserves held within the chartered entity. Under the structure described, the native XRP token has no assigned function in the bank's operations, leaving holders outside the charter's direct scope.
What the charter changes
- Ripple gains a federally supervised trust bank vehicle for stablecoin reserve custody
- The arrangement applies to RLUSD backing, not to XRP itself
- XRP continues to trade independently of the new entity's activities
A national trust charter places the reserve-holding function under federal oversight rather than a state-by-state patchwork, a structure several stablecoin issuers have pursued as US legislation on payment tokens has taken shape.
BeInCrypto noted XRP was trading near $1.31 at the time of its report. For holders, the practical question is whether expanded stablecoin infrastructure translates into demand for the token — a link the charter does not itself create.
