Binance SAFU Bitcoin Fund Drops Below $800M Top-Up Level
Data shows Binance has drawn down about half the bitcoin in its user protection fund, leaving it under the level its own rules say requires replenishment.

Binance has spent roughly half of the bitcoin held in its Secure Asset Fund for Users, or SAFU, equivalent to about $580 million, according to data reported by CoinDesk. The fund now sits below the $800 million level that Binance's own rules say should trigger a top-up.
The exchange has not said when it intends to refill the fund. SAFU is designed to provide a backstop for users in extreme circumstances, and its balance is one of the publicly tracked measures of exchange-backed protection.
Threshold in focus
- SAFU has fallen below Binance's stated $800 million top-up trigger
- About half of the fund's bitcoin has been used, worth roughly $580 million
- Binance has not disclosed a timetable for replenishing the balance
The decline puts attention on how the exchange communicates the status of its user protection fund and when it will restore the balance above its own threshold.
Binance has not provided further details on the drawdown or its plans for the fund. The figures indicate the SAFU bitcoin balance is now below the level at which Binance's policy calls for a refill.
