Public Companies Increasingly Hold Bitcoin as Treasury Reserve Asset
Strategy, Tesla, Block and others adopt bitcoin as a hedge against inflation and dollar devaluation.
Public companies are increasingly turning to bitcoin as a reserve asset, viewing it as a scarce, dollar-denominated store of value that can diversify corporate treasuries and preserve purchasing power amid rising inflation.
The trend was pioneered by Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, which began accumulating bitcoin in 2020. Since then, other notable firms including Tesla, Block, and Metaplanet have followed suit, allocating portions of their cash reserves to the digital asset.
Proponents argue that bitcoin's fixed supply and decentralized nature make it an attractive hedge against currency debasement. Additionally, holding bitcoin can signal innovation to investors and provide exposure to the growing digital asset economy.
The adoption by well-known public companies has helped legitimize bitcoin as a mainstream corporate treasury asset, though critics point to its volatility and regulatory uncertainties as ongoing risks.
