Maple holds $280M in XRP collateral as loan maturities approach
Roughly 225 million XRP backs three stablecoin loan positions on Maple, with December and January maturities that may not automatically free the collateral.

Lending protocol Maple is holding about $280 million in XRP as collateral against three stablecoin-denominated loan positions, according to CryptoSlate. The backing amounts to roughly 225 million XRP.
Two maturity dates sit on the near horizon — one in December and another in January — but a maturity date does not by itself release collateral. The reporting notes that the loans do not guarantee automatic collateral releases when they come due, leaving open the possibility that positions are settled, rolled over, or wound down in other ways.
Why the maturities matter
When a large collateral position approaches maturity, the market typically watches for two things: whether the borrower repays or refinances, and whether the collateral is returned to circulation or sold. With hundreds of millions of dollars in XRP committed, any change in the status of these loans could affect how much of that supply is available on the open market.
The reported risk is liquidation: if the positions are not resolved before or at maturity, or if collateral values move against the borrower, the XRP backing the loans could be subject to forced disposal.
What is not yet clear
- The identity of the borrower or borrowers behind the three positions
- Whether the loans will be repaid, refinanced, or allowed to run into liquidation
- How much of the 225 million XRP would return to the market in each scenario
Maple is a decentralized lending venue that connects on-chain liquidity with borrowers, and large single-asset collateral positions are a recurring feature of its loan book. Until the maturity dates pass or the borrower discloses its intentions, the size and timing of any XRP release or liquidation remain unresolved.
