Trader loses $469K on Hyperliquid, then reopens $16M ETH short
An unidentified Hyperliquid trader realized about $469,000 in losses overnight before adding 1,126 ETH of fresh short exposure, per CryptoSlate.

An unidentified trader on the perpetuals exchange Hyperliquid booked roughly $469,000 in realized losses before fees overnight, according to a CryptoSlate report, then returned to the market with additional bearish positioning.
Per the report, the trader added another 1,126 ETH of short exposure after the loss, bringing the total ETH short bet to about $16 million.
Same direction, larger size
The sequence — taking a loss on a position and then re-entering in the same direction — is a familiar pattern among leveraged traders on perpetuals venues, where positions can be adjusted or rebuilt quickly. In this case the follow-up short was larger in notional terms than the loss realized.
Hyperliquid is a decentralized perpetuals exchange where positions and profit-and-loss figures are publicly visible on-chain, which is why individual large trades on the platform are frequently tracked and discussed.
The trader's identity is not known, and the outcome of the $16 million short will depend on how ether's price moves from here. The report did not specify the position's entry price or liquidation level.
