DogeOS Launches Dogecoin DeFi Testnet, With Miner Security as Long-Term Goal
DogeOS has introduced a DeFi testnet for Dogecoin, but its applications currently rely on selected operators rather than the network's miners.

DogeOS has introduced a testnet designed to bring decentralized finance to Dogecoin, according to CoinDesk. The project aims to expand DOGE beyond payments and speculation.
At this stage, the testnet's applications depend on selected operators rather than Dogecoin miners for security. That means the system is not yet using the Dogecoin network's proof-of-work mining base in the way the project ultimately envisions.
Miner security as a future goal
DogeOS expects Dogecoin miners to eventually secure its applications, a shift that would link the DeFi environment more directly to the base chain's existing security model.
The testnet gives developers a space to experiment with DOGE-based DeFi, though the reliance on chosen operators means the current setup remains more centralized than a miner-secured network.
The initiative reflects wider interest in expanding older proof-of-work chains beyond simple payments, but moving from operator-run testnets to miner-backed production systems would involve technical and coordination work.
