BitMEX Opens Fund Recovery to Previously Barred Customers
A Sept. 24 policy update lets former BitMEX users who were blocked from the platform complete identity checks and withdraw funds, with asset minimums and sanctions rules still applying.

BitMEX has updated its policy to let customers it had previously barred from the platform pursue the recovery of funds held on the exchange. The change, dated Sept. 24, covers users whose ability to trade on the venue has already ended.
Under the revised approach, those users can complete identity verification and request withdrawals of their balances, according to the policy update.
Conditions That Still Apply
- Asset minimums remain in force for recovery requests.
- Sanctions screening rules continue to apply to affected accounts.
- Identity checks are required before any withdrawal is processed.
The update draws a distinction between access to trading and access to funds, treating the two as separate questions. Exchanges have faced recurring criticism over balances left stranded after accounts are closed or restricted, a problem that typically surfaces once a user is no longer able to log in or trade normally. BitMEX has not said how many accounts the change affects or how much value is involved.
