ETH Outperforms on Real Yield and L2 Adoption; ONDO Surge Raises Caution
Ethereum’s 10% weekly gain reflects fundamental strength; ONDO’s 15% daily jump lacks clear on-chain catalyst.
Macro Context
Softer CPI data has reduced rate-hike expectations, providing a tailwind for risk assets. However, the Fear & Greed index remains at 25 (Extreme Fear), suggesting that sentiment has not yet turned euphoric. Bitcoin is hovering near $65K, but volume is moderate, and the move appears driven by macro rather than crypto-native catalysts.
Bitcoin: Steady but Uninspired
BTC is flat on the day (-0.5%) but up 3.4% weekly. Dominance remains elevated at 56.2%, indicating capital is not rotating aggressively into altcoins. The dormant wallet movement of $383M is a one-off event with no systemic impact. Without a clear fundamental catalyst, we remain neutral.
Ethereum: Strength Anchored in Real Adoption
ETH is up 1.8% today and 10.2% over the past week, outperforming most large caps. The Ethereum Foundation spinout EthSystems, focused on bank privacy solutions, signals growing institutional interest in Ethereum’s infrastructure. Base creator Jesse Pollak’s shift in focus after a failed social bet also highlights continued developer attention on L2s. With real yield from staking and deflationary tokenomics, ETH’s fundamentals are improving.
ONDO Surge: Beware of Narrative Without Substance
ONDO jumped 14.8% today, making it the top gainer. However, we find no corresponding on-chain or protocol update from Ondo Finance. The move appears speculative, likely driven by low liquidity and momentum. Without a fundamental catalyst, we advise caution.
ZEC and Privacy Narrative Resurgence
Zcash rallied 22% over the past week, likely reigniting interest in privacy coins. However, trading volume relative to market cap is moderate, and regulatory risks remain. We view this as a narrative-driven move with uncertain sustainability.
Sector Rotation: DeFi and Infrastructure Hold Up
UNI (+11.4% weekly) and LINK (+10.7% weekly) show relative strength. Both benefit from increased on-chain activity and growing real-world asset tokenization. However, elevated valuations relative to earnings (fees) limit upside conviction. We stay neutral.
Risks to Watch
Extreme fear can persist for extended periods, and a reversal in inflation data could dent the macro tailwind. Additionally, the lack of clear catalysts for most altcoins suggests that this is not a broad-based rally. We remain fundamental-first and avoid chasing momentum.
