Bearish crypto traders were hit with $1.06 billion in short liquidations over a 24-hour period as the total cryptocurrency market capitalization rose by 3.7%, according to data from BeInCrypto.
Across all exchanges, the broader liquidation tally reached $1.24 billion, with the vast majority coming from positions betting on price declines. Long positions accounted for only $174.41 million of the total, underscoring the one-sided nature of the move.
Bitcoin led the squeeze
Bitcoin (BTC) alone drove $789.68 million of the short liquidations, making it the single largest contributor to the cascade. The event caught 141,191 traders who had opened leveraged short positions ahead of the price surge.
